The Government of Maharashtra on August 14, 2026, issued the Maharashtra Government Rules of Business (Fourth Amendment) Rules, 2026, further to amend the Maharashtra Government Rules of Business, 1975.
The following have been amended, namely:
• The amendment primarily reorganises and streamlines the executive structure of the state government by restructuring its official list of departments and reallocating specific administrative portfolios. It establishes new nomenclature and explicit subject listings for several existing portfolios—such as Revenue, Agriculture, School Education, Medical Education, Co-operation, Tourism, and a broadly redefined Industries, Investment, Services and Mining Department.
• Crucially, it expands the first schedule to add thirteen newly defined departments (indexed from serial numbers 36 to 48), which include the Protocol, Information and Public Relations, Transport, Forests, Disaster Management, Animal Husbandry, Sports, Labour, Energy, Food and Drugs Administration, Marketing, Textiles, and Cultural Affairs departments.
• For each newly formalised department, the amendment meticulously enumerates specific jurisdictional boundaries, regulatory laws, corporate entities under their purview, and general operational capabilities (such as the tracking of statistics or the authority to write off decretal dues) while systematically deleting these overlapping responsibilities from their previous parent departments to ensure standalone operational clarity.
